Looking at this again, his 'highlights' are mostly things you don't want a centre back doing. Pushing players off the ball (at least two here were pens not given) aerial challenges with his team mates, sliding tackles either in the box or out of position. Shots from outside the box, risky runs out of position, going to ground out of position. I'm starting to think he was lucky as a relatively unknown quantity and once trainers tried to teach him how to defend properly he just didn't have the minerals.
